Harry Reid shouldn't be seeking forgiveness from the president but rather from all the dark-skinned Americans speaking with a "Negro dialect" who he apparently sees as unfit for a candidacy to the land's highest office.

I think he seemed less racist than cynical. Bighearted, enlightened Harry wouldn't find the candidate you mention unfit -- he just thinks we cavemen would never elect him.
That may be - I just don't see how a dark-skinned man who speaks with a non-white cadence and vocabulary could read the speaker's words and not feel disparaged by them. He was clearly stating that there are a good number of U.S. citizens who were created by God with a skin color that he finds regretable.
